The module introduces a step-by-step approach for applying assertiveness:

  1. Creating an Assertiveness Hierarchy: Identify 10 situations where you want to be more assertive and rank them from easiest to hardest.
  2. Identifying Unhelpful Thinking: Use tools like Thought Diaries to challenge unhelpful beliefs that hinder assertiveness.
  3. Changing Unhelpful Behaviours: Replace ineffective behaviours with more assertive verbal and non-verbal actions.
  4. Rehearsing and Practising: Write down and practice responses until you feel confident handling each situation.

The module encourages starting with the simplest tasks on the hierarchy and gradually progressing to more challenging situations. Practice and reflection after each step help build confidence and refine assertive communication.
