Module 6 addresses the challenges many people face in saying "no" and offers strategies to develop assertive refusal skills. It begins by exploring the effects of saying "yes" when one truly means "no," such as increased stress, resentment, and damage to self-esteem. The module also identifies unhelpful beliefs that make saying "no" difficult, like fearing rejection or assuming others’ needs are always more important.

The module introduces techniques to change these unhelpful beliefs, replacing them with more empowering perspectives. It then provides practical principles for saying "no" effectively, focusing on clarity, honesty, and brevity, while maintaining politeness and taking responsibility for one’s decision.

To suit different situations, the module outlines six ways of saying "no," including the Direct "no," Reflecting "no," Reasoned "no," Rain Check "no," Enquiring "no," and the Broken Record "no." By practising these techniques, individuals can learn to set healthy boundaries, reduce stress, and maintain positive relationships without compromising their own needs.
